Thinking about doing the Ha Giang Loop but worried you might be too tall or carry a bit more weight than the average traveler? You’re not alone—and you’re definitely not the first person to wonder.
At Bong Hostel, we’ve hosted thousands of riders of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. And here’s the good news: you absolutely can ride with an Easy Rider, comfortably and safely.
Let’s put your mind at ease and help you plan the ride of a lifetime—without second-guessing your body.

First Things First: What is a Ha Giang Loop Easy Rider?
Before we get into sizing things up, let’s make sure you’re familiar with Vietnam’s motorbike culture.
An Easy Rider is a local motorbike driver who takes you on the Ha Giang Loop while you sit back and enjoy the view.
No stressing about shifting gears or tackling hairpin mountain passes—just wind in your hair and scenery that’ll blow your mind.
Easy Riders know every shortcut, secret waterfall, roadside BBQ spot, and karaoke bar along the way.
They're one of the best parts of the Loop experience, and if you're not confident driving your own bike, don’t have an international license, or just want to chill, they're the way to go.

“I’m Tall—Like… Really Tall. Will I Fit?”
Ah, the gentle giants! We see you.
The good news is: you’re definitely not the first tall traveler to do the Loop. At Bong Hostel, we’ve had guests well over 6ft (183cm+) ride comfortably with an Easy Rider.
If you're particularly tall—6'4" (193cm) or above—some minor adjustments might help increase comfort, but nothing will stop you from going.
Here’s what to expect:
Your knees might sit high, especially on smaller bikes (110cc or 125cc). But our riders often use more spacious bikes where possible for taller guests.
We can pad the seat, adjust your riding position, and help you stretch it out with plenty of photo stops (Golden Hour waits for no one).
If needed, we can pair you with a slightly taller driver—this helps balance the bike and gives you a bit more room.
If you let us know your height in advance, we’ll make sure your ride is set up for maximum comfort.

“What If I’m a Bit Heavier?”
First of all—Vietnamese food is incredible, and nobody leaves Ha Giang hungry. But seriously, your body should never be a barrier to adventure.
And at Bong we promise weight isn’t the dealbreaker you might think it is when it comes to riding the Ha Giang Loop with an Easy Rider.
Most of our guests (of all shapes and sizes) worry about this unnecessarily. But you can still do it, safely and comfortably!
Let’s break it down:
Bike Load Capacity:
A standard semi-automatic or manual bike in Vietnam can typically handle a combined load of around 150–180kg (330–400 lbs). That includes both you and your rider.
For larger guests, we can use bigger bikes (like a 150cc) that handle heavier loads better, especially on steep mountain passes.

Is It Safe to Ride with an Easy Rider If You’re Tall or Heavy?
Yes, 100%.
Your Easy Rider is an experienced, confident, highly skilled driver who has been trained to handle mountain roads, weather conditions, and different passenger types—including those who are taller, heavier, or simply nervous.
They’re also as strong as the buffaloes you see crossing the road around you on the loop, so don’t underestimate them—they’ve got you!
They’ll adjust their driving to make the journey smooth, safe, and still incredibly fun.
Here’s how Bong Hostel ensures your Safety:
We match you with the right rider and bike based on your size and comfort needs.
Braking and handling are adjusted based on passenger weight—your driver is trained for this.
We use frequent check-ins and rest stops to make sure you’re comfortable throughout the journey.
We stick to safe speeds and drive according to the road and weather conditions—not a tight schedule.
Your safety is our top priority, and your size doesn’t change that one bit.

Common Concerns (and Why You Don’t Need to Worry)
We hear these all the time, so let’s clear the air:
1. “I don’t want to inconvenience my driver.”
You won’t.
We’ve literally never had an Easy Rider complain about a guest’s body. These guys are professionals. They’ve been riding for years and know how to adjust their balance, speed, and technique for any kind of passenger.
They’ll do whatever’s needed to make the ride safe and enjoyable for both of you.
2. “I’m worried I’ll slow down the group.”
You won’t.
We travel at a pace that suits everyone. This isn’t a race—it’s about the journey, the views, and the good vibes. We always make sure all riders are comfortable and included.
3. “I’ll be the only one who doesn’t ‘fit in.’”
No way.
The Ha Giang Loop attracts solo travelers, couples, groups of friends, adventurers of all ages, and yes, people of all body types.
It’s a shared experience—and everyone’s welcome.

4. “I won’t get the same princess treatment as the other guests.”
The truth is, Easy Rider’s treat everyone like royalty. I don’t think they know any other way to behave. Seriously, it’s built into their DNA I swear.

5. “Will It Still Be Comfortable to Ride with an Easy Rider?”
Comfort is key. Especially when you’re doing four days of back-to-back riding through mountains, mud, mist, and magic.
If you’re taller or heavier, it just means a few smart adjustments go a long way.
For instance, if we know ahead of time that you’re tall or heavier than average, we’ll prep a bike accordingly—sturdier suspension, adjusted seating, maybe even a cheeky cushion.
Pro tip: the more info you give us when booking, the better we can set you up for max comfort.

The Easy Rider Experience: Why It’s the Best Choice (Especially If You’re Worried About Size)
Still debating whether to ride solo or hop on the back? Here’s why riding with an Easy Rider is the ultimate choice for anyone who’s feeling unsure:
1. No Driving Stress
You don’t have to think about shifting gears, navigating traffic, or making it up steep inclines. Just vibe.
Plus since the rules changed in January 2025, it has become impossible to self-ride the Ha Giang Loop without the correct license, without getting fined—no I’m not kidding!
2. All the Chill, All the Thrill
You get to fully enjoy the views (and there are a lot of them). Snap pics, wave at the cute kids, and sing along to your loop playlist without worrying about crashing into a rice paddy.
3. Local Culture and Happy Water Buddies
Your Easy Rider is also your local guide—they’ll translate, explain the culture, introduce you to ethnic minority families, and even pour you a sneaky rice wine shot at dinner.
